I have been selling on Poshmark since 2014. I am a Poshfest speaker and Poshmark Closet Consultant. Over the years, I have done quite a bit of research on Poshmark analytics, implemented and tested various strategies and activities, tracked and studied my closet analytics, and networked within the Poshmark Community.

How Does Poshmark Work?

Of all reselling platforms, Poshmark is perhaps the easiest to use. With a user-friendly interface and simplified selling, Poshmark is a great place to sell clothing online.

You can use Poshmark from the mobile app or the website, where you can list, manage your listings, make sales, and network with the Poshmark Community.

Poshmark is the best place for new resellers because it’s very easy to use! You simply upload photos, write descriptions, enter a bit of information, and your items are for sale with a tremendous audience and many promotional opportunities.

Common Poshmark Terms:

If you are brand new to Poshmark, you might be a bit confused with the many acronyms that appear throughout your newsfeed. Here is a guide to navigate the Poshmark terms.

  • CCO: “Closet Clearout” These are frequent promotional days whereas Poshmark hosts a limited time offer; On CCO days, sellers can drop their prices by at least 10% and Poshmark will cover reduced shipping and notify likers of the deal.

  • MDD: “Make a Deal Days” are days whereas Poshmark encourages sellers to make offers to likers in exchange for a chance to win prizes.

  • OTL: “Offer to Likers” Whereas you can make an offer to likers by reducing your price at least 10% and offering a shipping discount. This is the best way to effectuate sales.

  • PFF: “Posh Friend Forever” An adorably corny acronym used to describe your Poshmark friends

  • Bundle: When a buyer creates a bundle, they can purchase more than one item at once to be shipped together. Most sellers offer greater discounts on bundle purchases.

  • Self Share: The way to refresh your items in the newsfeed and search engine. This is necessary at least once daily for best results. See below for more information about Poshmark sharing requirements.

  • Community Share: Sharing other Poshmark seller’s listings to your followers. This is highly encouraged on the app but generally regarded as an unnecessary waste of time by experienced Poshmark sellers.

What Can You Sell on Poshmark?

On Poshmark you can sell women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and fashion accessories, as well as home decor, some pet accessories, and (new!) some categories of small electronics.

Poshmark does not allow the sale of items that do not adhere to their categories. See a full list of prohibited items here

How To Sell on Poshmark

I always recommend getting started by selling items around your house.

The Poshmark listing process is as simple as prepare, photograph, describe, share, sell, ship!

Poshmark Cover Photos

Photograph as if you do not have a description, and describe as if you do not have photographs”- Erynn, @Fourlimes

Poshmark allows sellers to feature up to 16 photographs and recently introduced listing videos! If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video must be worth a million. Listings with videos receive extra exposure

Poshmark prefers stock images, modeled images, or well-lit photographs of your item on a clear hanger or dress form. Regardless of which photography method you use, the Poshmark algorithm prefers a plain white background, for enhanced image searching on major search engines. This is why you see so many boring images of items on clear hangers on white walls- they perform very well on Poshmark.

Be sure that your item is cleaned, wrinkle-free, and looking its best for picture day. Also be sure to photograph everything; the front, back, brand and material tags, and any features or imperfections of your item.

Looks matter. There are awesome photo-editing programs that help you to enhance your photos. Vendoo has a background remover by PhotoRoom so you can have perfect, white backgrounds right in Vendoo!

Poshmark Descriptions

Listing on Poshmark is super simple! Poshmark provides a title field (80 characters), written description (1,500 characters), and boxes for category, quantity, size, brand, color, condition, style tags, retail price, and sale price. I recommend that you execute all listings fields entirely to maximize searchability and exposure.

Do not underestimate the importance of your written descriptions on Poshmark. Poshmark offers incredible search engine optimization (SEO), with Posh listings being prominent upon search results in both Google and Bing. On Poshmark, every character in your listing is searchable.

Most purchases do not happen by chance or by frivolous news feed scrolling; many are a direct result of a search performed by the buyer. The key is to maximize your descriptions to enhance your rankings and make more sales.

A Posh Perfect description includes:

  • What the item is

  • The style name or brand’s title of the item

  • Style Type and Features

  • Size and Size Type

  • Material Composition

  • Colors & Patterns

  • Relevant Measurements

  • Style Tags and Keywords

Style tags and keywords are huge. For a full guide of trending styles, BOLO brands, and keywords for Poshmark, check out A Reseller’s Guide to Cores & Aesthetics.

In my Poshmark listings, I use almost every character I am provided to maximize seo and enhance my chances of making sales.

How to Make Sales on Poshmark

Poshmark is not a “list-it-and-leave-it” platform; on the contrary, it is a little high maintenance. For best results, Poshmark requires consistency and daily activity.

Foremost, Poshmark requires that you share your items daily.

Poshmark sharing is crucial to make more sales on Poshmark. You can manually share your items by opening each one, clicking the “share” icon, and then sharing to your followers (and/or a relevant Poshmark Party if one is happening).

Sharing becomes ridiculous, as it is incredibly time-consuming. I recommend using an automated sharing software such as PosherVA. Use bots and automation software conservatively and at your own risk.

Posh Pro Tip: I also recommend delisting and relisting a handful of listings daily with Vendoo. Note: This is different (and better) than the Poshmark “Copy” feature. Vendoo’s delist/relist feature provides you with brand new listings that receive all the exposure of an item being listed for the very first time! Check out how I delist and relist my Poshmark closet here.

Poshmark Fees: How Much Does Poshmark Take?

The Poshmark fee is 20% of the sale price. For items sold under $15, Poshmark takes a flat fee $2.95.

Poshmark fees are higher than other platforms. In turn, Poshmark provides the easiest listing process, simplest shipping options, the best seller protection, and the most advanced search engine optimization (SEO) on major search engines.

Poshmark Shipping

Poshmark offers the simplest shipping. Upon sale, sellers are emailed a label that they can affix to a package, and ship! The labels are USPS Priority Mail, which means fast delivery and the ability to use free Priority Mail supplies available at the post office or USPS online.

Generally, the buyer pays for shipping (current rate $7.65). You can offer free or reduced shipping, and you pay the difference.

Poshmark shipping deals are incredible… being able to send up to 5lbs to any U.S. territory for only $7.67 is a steal! Alternatively, having to charge (or pay yourself) that much for only a few ounces can be quite frustrating with smaller items. Similarly, if an order is over 5lbs, you will have to pay to upgrade the label in the Poshmark app, and it can certainly be pricey.

There is no self-ship option on Poshmark, you must use their labels.

Posh Protection: Poshmark Return Policy

Resellers love the Poshmark Return Policy.

Poshmark does not allow returns, unless the item is not as described (wrong item sent, undisclosed damage, not authentic, etc.) To attempt a return, a buyer is required to open a Poshmark case and submit photographic evidence to support their claim.

In my experience, Poshmark is certainly not quick to respond, but they are the most fair. While other platforms have a reputation for “always siding with the buyer,” Poshmark is known for being the most fair and favorable to resellers.

Poshmark Tips to Make More Sales

Listing is not all it takes to be a successful seller. Poshmark requires some TLC. Here are some tips to make more sales on Poshmark:

  • List Regularly

Consistent daily listing is among the most important things you can do on every reselling platform. I don’t always have the time to list brand new items, so I use Vendoo’s bulk delist/relist feature to tons of brand new Poshmark listings each day!

  • List Desirable Items

I firmly believe that everything sells. But on-trend styles sell more quickly and for a higher price. Be sure to follow some fashion magazines and trending hashtags to say “in.”

  • Maximize Descriptions for SEO

Again, your Poshmark descriptions are so important because every single character yields in the Poshmark search engine and Google. Including all the words maximizes your chances of ranking in search results, receiving more exposure, and making more sales. Learn a bit about how SEO works on Poshmark here.

  • Price Appropriately

Pricing is a science, as you want to price low enough to yield interest, but high enough to accommodate offers and yield a comfortable profit. Looking at comparable prices “comps” is a great tool for reference, although they can be deceptive. Learn more about my sales strategy and how I price my items for sale in this article I wrote about creating a pricing strategy.

  • Engage With Your Listings

Posh is high maintenance. But, the maintenance provides for unlimited opportunities to promote your items, enhance searchability, increase exposure, and make more money selling on Poshmark. Sharing, making offers to likers, and communicating with buyers who create bundles are a few of the many ways to promote sales and engage with buyers.
