How to Send Offers on Depop, or Cancel Them!

Among all the features and tools Depop developers have introduced in recent years, offers are definitely one of the best, helping buyers and sellers negotiate prices quickly and easily. Whether you’re looking to snag a deal on that vintage mini skirt or aiming to clear out your inventory, understanding how to use this feature can enhance your Depop experience. So, let’s see how Depop offers work, how to send them, and how to cancel!

Key Takeaways:

  • Depop offers simplify price negotiations between buyers and sellers, allowing both to suggest lower prices and close deals faster.
  • Both sellers and buyers can send and receive offers, and the process is very simple, but there are a few limitations.
  • Users can’t cancel offers they have sent — they need to wait until the offer expires and send a new one.

What Is an Offer on Depop?

There are currently two offer features on Depop designed to simplify negotiations between buyers and sellers:

  • Make Offer. This feature allows buyers to reach out to sellers and ask for a lower price on items they’re interested in.
  • Send Offer. This feature allows sellers to offer discounts to interested buyers, encouraging faster sales.

Fun fact: The “Make Offer” feature was introduced in 2022, so buyers were the first ones to start initiating price negotiations, while sellers only gained this ability a year later, in 2023.

What Are the Benefits of Depop Offers?

According to Depop’s statement, in 2023, buyers received an average discount of 23% on items they purchased via offers. This makes it pretty clear why buyers like this feature and are actively using it.

What about sellers?

Here’s what sellers can do with Depop offers:

  • Target interested buyers. As a seller, you can only send offers to likers (buyers who have liked your items or added your items to their bag). This allows you to target people who are interested in your listings but may have been put off by the original price.
  • Clear inventory. For items that have been sitting in your closet for a while, you can use the following strategy: refresh them to move them to the top of the feed, and once you see new likes pouring in, send offers to those buyers. This way, you can move your inventory faster.
  • Simplify communication. Before Depop introduced offers, proactive sellers who wanted to offer discounts to potential buyers had to do everything manually — go to the list of likers, click on each person’s username, message them, negotiate, and edit the listing’s price accordingly. Now, sellers can close deals in just a few clicks.

How Do Offers Work on Depop?

The process of making and sending offers is a little different for buyers and sellers, but still pretty straightforward.

Depop Offers for Sellers

When someone clicks “Like” on your item or adds the item to their bag and abandons it there, you get a push notification. These people are called likers, and they’re the ones you can negotiate with. By sending your offer to them, you give them 24 hours to purchase the item at the discounted price or make a counteroffer.

As a seller, you can receive offers, too. You’ll be notified and will have three options to respond: accept, reject, or counter it. You can manage your offers in the “Selling offers” tab in your Inbox.

Limitations

As of now, sellers can’t send offers to users outside of their country. If you have worldwide shipping enabled, you can still sell globally — just not through offers. Items that are listed with multiple size options are also not eligible for offers.

Note: There’s no limit to the number of offers the seller can receive for one item.

Depop Offers for Buyers

If you’d like to get a better deal on something that has caught your eye on Depop, you can make the seller an offer on this item. Buyers are not allowed to have more than one active offer on the same item at once, so double-check the price and make sure it’s reasonable before clicking the “Send offer” button. If the seller accepts multiple offers for the same item, you and other buyers will be notified, so the one who completes the purchase first will eventually get the item.

The system will also notify you when you receive an offer from a seller, allowing you to accept, dismiss, or counter it with a different price. You can see all your offers in the “Offers” tab in Messages.

Note: Shipping is not included in the offer price. Buyers will need to pay the shipping cost on top of the agreed price.

Key Things to Remember

Whether you’re a buyer or a seller, there are two key things about Depop offers you need to know:

  • All offers expire in 24 hours. This means both buyers and sellers only have a 24-hour window to respond. And most importantly, anyone else can buy the item at its original price or make their own offer within this time.
  • Offers are non-binding. When the seller accepts the offer, the buyer still has to complete the transaction; they don’t receive a reservation for the item. The item remains available for purchase or offers from other buyers until the purchase is complete.

How to Send Offers on Depop

Depop’s offer features are very easy to navigate. Here are the step-by-step instructions for sellers and buyers.

How to Send Offers on Depop as a Seller

Step 1: Log in to your Depop app and go to your notification feed to see who has liked your items.

Step 2: Choose the buyer you’d like to negotiate with and click “Send offer.”

Step 3. Enter the price you want to suggest and click “Send offer” at the bottom.

How to Send Offers on Depop as a Buyer

Step 1: Log in to your Depop app and find the listing you’re interested in.

Step 2: Click on the “Make offer” button next to the “Add to bag” button at the bottom right corner of the app.

Step 3: Enter the price you want to propose — or choose one of the options suggested by the algorithm — and send your request by clicking “Send offer.”

Sending a Counteroffer

Both sellers and buyers can counter an offer with a different price to make sure each party gets the best deal.

To send a counteroffer:

  1. Head over to your Inbox and choose “Offers” if you’re a buyer or “Selling offers” if you’re a seller.
  2. Then tap “Counter,” and you’ll be able to suggest a new price.
  3. Keep in mind that after the counteroffer is sent, the initial offer will no longer be valid.

How to Cancel Offers on Depop

For sent offers: Since offers are non-binding and expire in 24 hours, there’s no special functionality to cancel an offer you’ve sent while it’s pending review. If you want to change your offer, you’ll have to wait for it to expire or be declined and then make a new one.

For received offers: When responding to offers that users are not interested in, both buyers and sellers can simply ignore them. However, for sellers who want to maintain professionalism, declining and responding politely may be the right thing to do. For instance, if the offer you received is too low, you can message the buyer, politely letting them know the lowest price you’re willing to accept.

Tip: If you’re a seller and don’t want to receive offers, add something like “Price is firm” in the item’s description. This will help show buyers that you’re not open to negotiations.

Tips to Maximize Your Sales with Depop Offers

Since offers were introduced on Depop, they’ve become a valuable tool for sellers to boost sales. With these simple tips, you can drive even more growth for your reselling business:

  • Send offers to each and every liker. There’s no better way to entice buyers to make a purchase than to offer discounts. And the more potential buyers you reach, the higher your chances of closing a sale.
  • Price your items strategically. To have room for discounts, you should set initial prices with future negotiations in mind. As offers are becoming more popular, full-price sales are becoming less common, so when buyers see your price, flexibility and a potential discount are what they expect.
  • Be quick to respond. It’s not just about the 24-hour window. Timely responses signal professionalism and enhance buyer experience, so your buyers will be more likely to give you a high rating after the order is fulfilled.
  • Don’t reply to offers aggressively. There’s no need to explain why you can’t accept the proposed price. Just try to be neutral and straightforward, like “Price is firm on this one” or “Unfortunately, $_ is a bit low — would $_ work for you?”
