How Much Does Mercari Take?

Mercari fees have changed quite a bit over the years. As of January 6, 2025, Mercari charges a flat 10% selling fee on the combined amount of the item price and any buyer-paid shipping.

This means if you sell an item for $50 and the buyer pays $10 for shipping, the 10% fee applies to the total $60, resulting in a $6 selling fee.

This straightforward fee structure simplifies the selling process, allowing sellers to anticipate costs and set appropriate prices.

🧠Think about it: Mercari fees are approximately half that of Poshmark selling fees.

Complete Breakdown of Mercari’s Seller Fees

Understanding each fee component is essential for accurate pricing and profit calculation. Here's a detailed look:

Mercari Listing Fees

Listing items on Mercari is free. There are no upfront costs to post your items for sale, making it risk-free to list multiple items.

Mercari Selling Fees

A 10% selling fee is applied to the total of the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping. This fee is only charged when your item sells.

Mercari Payment Processing Fees

Effective January 6, 2025, Mercari no longer charges a separate payment processing fee. Previously, there was a 2.9% + $0.50 fee, but this has been eliminated under the new fee structure.

Mercari Shipping and Delivery Fees

Mercari gives sellers quite a bit of control when it comes to shipping. Sellers can decide whether to offer free shipping (pay for it themselves) or charge buyers for shipping. Sellers also decide how to ship:

  • Shipping with Mercari prepaid labels: Offers discounted rates with USPS, FedEx, and UPS for packages up to 50 lbs and a maximum length of 34 inches. These labels include tracking and up to $200 in Shipping Protection.

  • Shipping with your own labels: Allows sellers to choose to handle shipping independently.

If you ship with Mercari labels, you can either offer free shipping or charge the buyer the label cost. If you ship on your own, you handle all costs associated with shipping.

Promoted Listing Fees

Mercari does not have a pay-per-click promotional feature. Mercari does have some promotional tools like “Promote,” where you drop your listing price by 10% to “boost” your listing in searches. This does not necessarily require a fee, but only a pricing adjustment.

Authentication Fees

For luxury items, Mercari provides an optional authentication service at a flat rate of $5 per item. Sellers can also opt for a digital certificate of authenticity for an additional $10.

If you opt-into Mercari Authentication and your item is determined authentic, the listing will be displayed with a badge proving authentication.

Payout Transfer Fee

Once your item is delivered and the buyer confirms receipt by rating the transaction (or it's auto-rated after 3 days), your earnings become available. You have two options to access your funds:

  • Direct Deposit: Free direct deposit to your bank account, typically processed within 5 business days. This service is now free, but a $2 fee applies only for failed transactions.

  • Instant Pay: For immediate access, Instant Pay transfers funds to your debit card within minutes for a $3 fee per transaction. Mercari

💡 Tip: To minimize fees, avoid instant pay.

How to Calculate Your Total Mercari Fees and Earnings

Calculating Mercari fees is simple, with a straightforward fee structure. When you make sales, Mercari will provide a fee breakdown for you.

Here is an example of a recent Mercari sale:

How to Calculate Your Total Mercari Fees and Earnings

1. Identify the Sale Price: Determine the final sale price of your item.

Here, the sale price was $47.00

2. Calculate the Selling Fee: Apply the 10% selling fee to the combined total of the item price and any buyer-paid shipping.

Here, the combined total of the jacket ($47.00) and the buyer-paid shipping cost ($13.87) is $60.87.

10% of that combined total  ($60.87) is $6.08.

3. Account for Shipping Costs: If you, as the seller, cover shipping, subtract the shipping cost from your earnings.

Here, this isn’t applicable because the buyer paid shipping.

💰So, I sold the jacket for $47.00 and I made $40.92 after Mercari fees!
